Integrating Social Tools into your Respiratory Care Curriculum
Lesson 1 - UpToDate |
Twitter- Access to Current Information
Twitter- Share and VoteDiigo - Share and Evaluate Resources |
Get connected with your professional community
We will be using Twitter to follow current topics in respiratory care. If you don't have a twitter account check out the help section below to get started.
Advantage: Textbooks and classroom curriculum are not able to keep up with the amount of new information in the medical and respiratory care professions. Through these news threads, students are informed of new and current trends and will better be able to understand the rationale for many of the changes in practices that occur continuously in healthcare.
Share a newsworthy source
Advantage: Encourages sharing of information about classroom topics, an occurrence that is less frequent with community college students due to the fact they are not physically on campus together. Many have jobs, families and other commitments, tweeting is a quick and accessible way to share links, photos, comments and connect as a group. Having students vote on the topic facilitates ownership of their education.
Join Diigo
You should have received an email to join our diigo group through your college gmail account. If you don't already have a diigo account you will have to sign up for one first. Watch the video in the help section below to get started. Begin by conducting your search for the weekly journal topic using the college library, google scholar or other peer reviewed journal search engine. I will confirm the weekly topic by tweeting it with the date & our hashtag.
Responses are Due each Monday by 11pm EST Advantage: Helps students develop a repository of current literature in their field that can be accessed even after the class has ended, unlike information posted to an LMS system that is inaccessible to students after a course has ended.
